Huntsman, Savile Row is excited to announce a new partnership with London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London, aimed at nurturing emerging talent and promoting sustainable practices in bespoke tailoring. This collaboration is part of the BA (Hons) Bespoke Tailoring course curriculum, providing unique opportunities for second-year students to gain real-world experience in bespoke tailoring and craftsmanship.
The partnership module challenges second-year BA (Hons) Bespoke Tailoring students to design and create new garments from unclaimed, unwanted and discarded Huntsman bespoke items, known in the industry as ‘pork garments’. This initiative promotes zero-waste practices while fostering creative thinking and sustainability in fashion— values shared by both Huntsman and London College of Fashion share.
From their allocation of pork products, students will need to completely deconstruct and reimagine their materials to fit a specific client brief, using traditional tailoring techniques and the latest technological innovation to create something entirely new and fit to pass Huntsman’s rigorous sartorial standards. The competition emphasises sustainability and offers students the invaluable opportunity to learn from Huntsman's master craftsmanship. As part of the experience, students will attend specialist masterclasses at 11 Savile Row, led by Head Cutters Campbell Carey and Dario Carnera. For the project, students will work with design profiles from actual Huntsman customers, offering practical insights into understanding and nurturing client relationships within the bespoke tailoring process.
Outstanding designs will be recognised with cash prizes, and one talented student will be awarded a coveted summer internship at Huntsman. This internship experience will provide hands-on learning in the luxury fashion and bespoke tailoring industry, further enriching the students' professional development and skills in sustainable design.
"We are thrilled to support the next generation of bespoke makers through this partnership with the London College of Fashion," said Huntsman Managing Director Taj Phull. "By engaging with these talented students, we not only uphold our commitment to nurturing new talent in the tailoring industry but also champion sustainability as an integral part of the craft."
This collaboration is a significant step in the longstanding relationship between Huntsman and the BA (Hons) Bespoke Tailoring Course at the London College of Fashion, bringing together traditional craftsmanship and modern fashion education. It reflects Huntsman’s dedication to supporting future generations of bespoke tailors while promoting an innovative approach to sustainability and luxury fashion.
The new partnership embodies the shared vision of both Huntsman and London College of Fashion to create a sustainable future for bespoke tailoring and inspire the next wave of leaders in the bespoke tailoring industry.
